Our Wonderful Trip to Beeston

Date: 29th Mar 2018 @ 4:40pm

Well what an adventure we have had at Beeston! We arrived excitedly and raring to go managing some time for archaeologist digs, obstacle manoeuvres, football and fire building. After lunch we learned about different types of ways to tie ropes together with John from the centre. Then we headed to the woods to make jungle dens, attach hammocks between trees and create Bear Gryll type woodland shelters. After a delicious evening meal we were back outside for nose jousting, night line trust activities and team building games before we lit our camp fire. As the embers burnt down we delighted in toasting our dough twists and heating marshmallows. Watching some of Paddington 2 whilst sipping hot chocolate was a perfect end to a great first day and the children slept soundly.

Day 2 had to start early as bags needing packing and beds stripping before breakfast at 8.15am. Lots of children were up for seconds with bacon, hash browns and beans on the menu! By 9.30 we were off to Beeston castle to learn about life in medieval times. We were amazed to learn that children as young as 7 were knights in training! Lady Annabel and Sir Jethro demonstrated their sword skills before we all had the opportunity to wear a medieval soldier’s helmet, hold their sword and compare the types of foods eaten 800 years ago with those eaten today. After this we were marched up towards the keep through the gatehouse, the outer walls and over the moat. The views from the top were amazing and we could see Jodrell Bank clearly.

Once back at the centre for lunch we managed to squeeze in a mini Easter egg hunt before our coach arrived to bring us home safely.

Thank you children for being such great company during our 2 day adventure. Have a great Easter and enjoy reliving the memories as you see the photos we have uploaded.
