Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 13th May

Date: 16th May 2019 @ 4:02pm

In Literacy, we have been focusing on our writing on using capital letter and full stops. We started by writing letters to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to congratulate them both on the birth of their new baby son, Archie. After learning a little about the Royal family and why they are so significant, we went on to write our letters. Using a capital letter to start every sentence and then putting a full stop after one thought or idea was our main aim. The children are good at understand when each of these need to be used but not yet using them independently in a longer piece of writing.

In Maths, we have been using a number line to solve addition sums by counting on. We learnt that the first number in our sum tells us where to start on the number line and the second number tells us how many jumps forward we need to make in order to find our answer. Our homework this week is based around this so it will be lovely for you to observe the skills they have learnt.

This week has also had a big art focus as we have been looking at Vincent Van Gough. With a focus of skylines, we used textures, layers and different materials to recreate a realistic landscape.

This week we haven’t put any new sounds into the word wallet because we want the children to consolidate their learning. When looking at the sounds, discuss the alternatives ways of saying them, for example: oy, oi, ee and ea. This is causing lots of confusion at the moment in class, so consolidation at home if imperative.
