Welcome Back!

Date: 7th Sep 2019 @ 11:41am

I hope everyone had a lovely summer. Thank you all so much for your generous end of year cards and gifts.

It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to school this week. They all look incredibly smart in their new uniform.

We have made a good start on our new topic about the causes of WW2. Yesterday we walked to the war memorial and noticed the names of 9 men from Brereton who lost their lives in WW1. We then discussed events such as the treaty of Versailles and the Great Depression back in class.

in English we are looking at the text Rose Blanche which tells the story of war from a child’s perspective. In guided reading, we have begun reading Goodnight Mister Tom which tells the story of Willie Beech, an evacuee, and Tom Oakley, the man who takes him in.

In maths we have been working on place value to numbers in the millions, counting in patterns, adding and subtracting.

Next week we have a visit to Clonter Opera on Tuesday and swimming on Wednesday afternoon. For our Tuesday visit children will need to wear their uniform, coat and bring a packed lunch. For swimming, girls need a one piece costume, boys need close fitting shorts and all need a towel and shampoo etc.

After school on Tuesday we have a welcome to Year 6 briefing for parents. One session begins at 3:40 and one at 4:30. For anyone who can’t make it, the PowerPoint with relevant information will be published on the school website.

I hope to see you there.
