Year 1 class blog w/b 22.1.18

Date: 26th Jan 2018 @ 3:10pm

We have had a super week in year 1! This week in phonics we have recapped on the ar, or, ai and qu sounds, as these sounds needed more work following on from our recent assessment. Thank you for your help with spellings this week!

In English, we invented a story based on ‘The Bear who went Boo.’ Thank you for helping with the additional homework over the weekend. I enjoyed hearing about a variety of different animals and this certainly gave the children inspiration when writing their stories. We had some cheeky chimpanzees, mischievous meerkats and even a naughty cow who all enjoyed making the other animals in their natural habitats jump!

In maths we did lots of problem solving and reasoning around adding and taking away, including looking at the greater than and less than symbols. We looked at the inverse and number fact families.

In topic we continued to create a leaflet about the Antarctic, while in PE we continued to learn some key skills and new gymnastics positions. In science we conducted an experiment whereby we melted ice in different locations around the classroom (and outside!). We discovered why ice melts and learned about how water can be a solid, liquid and a gas.

Please let me know if you have any questions or queries.
