Year 1 WC 1st October 2018

Date: 6th Oct 2018 @ 10:03pm

This week we have been innovating the story of The Gingerbread Man. The children have had some brilliant ideas with the gingerbread being chased by all kinds of animals and some alternative endings such as the fox making friends with the gningerbread man and living happily ever after. Next week, we are starting our non fiction unit writing instructions for how to look after a dragon.

In maths we are moving on to addition and subtraction. To begin, the children will be introduced to the part whole model in order to understand that numbers can be partitioned into two or more parts.

In Science we have been observing the weather this week. We've not only thought about what the weather is doing but also what it feels like. Have we needed to put pur coat on? Has it affected what we've done? We'll repeat this activity in winter, spring and summer so we can compare the weather in all the seasons.

In art the children have been busy with Mrs Taylor drawing dragon eyes. Each week I've come in to the classroom on Friday morning to see the tables covered in their intricately drawn designs and now they are being brought to life with colour from wet tissue paper. I can't wait to see the finished products which will be displayed in the key stage 1 corridor.

Don't forget our Kings and Queens day on Tuesday this week. Mr McAulay and I are really looking forward to an exciting topic day learning about our monarchs past and present.
