Year 1 WC 23rd April

Date: 27th Apr 2019 @ 9:29pm

This week we have launched our new Pirates topic which we’ll be working on for the next half term. We found an old treasure map in English and the children have been busy writing directions to follow the map to the treasure. Unfortunately, you have to cross a crocodile infested swamp to reach the glistening, gleaming treasure! Many of the children weren’t sure what a swamp was so we looked at some pictures and wrote a setting description using lots of their fantastic adjectives.

In maths we have started our new unit, multiplication. Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. More information about how we teach the four operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) will be given at our maths workshop on Tuesday. Each class will give the presentation twice at 3:45pm and 4:15pm. You are more than welcome to also attend the Year 2 meeting in preparation for next year.

This week I will joining Year 4 on their residential to York on Wednesday until Friday. The class will be covered by Miss Latimer and Mrs Taylor in my absence. Don’t forget we are closed on Thursday for Polling Day.

This half term we shall be having a pirate day where children can come to school dressed as a pirate and we’ll be doing lots of pirate themed activities to link with our topic. Details of this will be sent out this week.
