Year 1's first few weeks...

Date: 22nd Sep 2015 @ 5:57pm

I am so proud that all of your Year 1 children have settled in so well.  We've had an exciting first few weeks and would like to share some photos with you to look at at home!

In Literacy we have enjoyed reading the story of Rumpelstiltskin and received an exciting letter from him last week asking us to help him get his powers back!  We enjoyed experimenting with different ways to make gold from leaves then wrote out our instructions and posted them back to him.  We were then pleased to receive a letter back from him telling us that the instructions had worked and that he had sent some ‘gold leaf’ back for us!

We have now started reading Rapunzel and have enjoyed acting the story out and creating freeze frames of different scenes today!

In Numeracy we have been focusing on the place value of numbers using Numicon to help us to split numbers into tens and ones then writing this as a number sentence for example – ’24 is made up of 20 and 4 … so 20 + 4 = 24’.  We are now moving onto measuring and have been practising using a ruler accurately to measure objects in centimetres.  We have also been working on our 'Number Bonds to 10'  and investigated how many different ways we could make 10 using paris of numbers.

We hope that you enjoy looking through some of the photos of our work!
