Year 2 - Week Beginning 8th January

Date: 13th Jan 2018 @ 7:18pm

Welcome back!

We have had a gorgeous week back in school, talking about the events of the Christmas holidays, exploring our new focus text and starting our work on multiplication and division. It has been a very busy week, but we have all enjoyed our time back at school.

In English, on Wednesday we all came across a rather bizarre obstacle course that has some very strange items at the end – teeth, a toothbrush and a gold coin. We were all truly baffled until we found out that Jim has left them to their as memorabilia from his strip up his beanstalk. I’m sure many of you will know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, but this story has a slight twist as I'm sure the children have all told you about.

In Maths, we have really got our teeth stuck in to multiplication. The week started by creating stories for a variety of equations; some very imaginative ideas came to light with one child writing about the number of smelly socks that their Dad owns! In addition, we have begun to look at arrays and use them to help us answer challenging questions. Over the next few weeks, as well as the children’s My Maths homework, we also encourage you to test their understanding of 2s, 5s and 10s times tables at every opportunity as this is something that will help in their mental arithmetic skills.

In PE, this week we have started work on our team building skills. The children have worked well together and demonstrated some very supportive skills. As we move into next week, we will be focusing on how to encourage and work with team mates as well as starting our games of netball and football.

We hope you have all seen the notes we have put into the children’s diaries, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
