Year 2 - Week beginning 9th July

Date: 13th Jul 2018 @ 8:26am

Well between the football and nearing the end of term, this week has been a lively one.

The children had the pleasure of working with Mr Cotton on Monday and Tuesday and they all thoroughly enjoyed having him as their teacher. Whilst Mr Cotton was here the children discussed their ambitions and goals for year 3 and what next year has in store for them. It was lovely to see the excitement and enthusiasm for moving into key stage two.

A newspaper report on the Titanic has been our main focus in English this week. As we are now very familiar with the events that happened, we transferred these into enticing newspaper reports. The children used their knowledge of headline, subtitles, caption and pictures and created some wonderful articles.

Number and place value has been our main focus this week in maths, particularly focusing on numbers in the hundreds. The children were given the challenge to add two 3-digit numbers and then subtraction them. They rose to this challenge and even started to move into the thousands. This demonstrated their clear understanding of place value and how they are ready to absorb more challenge and complex number problems in year 3.

Our topic work has been finished this week as we have designed our own ship using the outline of the Titanic. The children are really excited to bring these books home to share with you.

Just a quick reminder that next week is our ‘Seaside Week’. On Monday, the children are welcome to come in clothes they would usually wear to the seaside as there will be lots of different activities inside and outside the classroom. On Tuesday, it is our ‘Stay and Make’ morning where the children will make clay plaques based around seaside scenery. The rest of the week will be usual school uniform but with a seaside theme through all areas of work.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and the sun comes back out to join us.
