Year 2 class blog w/b 8.10.18

Date: 14th Oct 2018 @ 10:23am

We have had another lovely week in year 2. Many thanks for your support in learning spellings, reading at home and with the Maths and English homework. Great job with the le rule everyone! If you would like any additional spellings to work on, type ‘year 2 common exception words’ into a search engine. Your child needs to be able to spell these and the year 1 common exception words to be an ‘expected’ writer at the end of the year.

In Maths this week we focused on addition and subtractions. We looked at number bonds to 100 using our number bonds to 10 to help us, as well as adding a one-digit number to a 2-digit number.  In English we had an amazing visit from Ralph- a dragon trainer- from the local dragon hatchery in Sandbach. For anyone that doesn’t know, this is behind Waitrose. He told us all about dragons and we asked him lots of questions. He told us about the eggs that had hatched and even had a pet baby dragon with him. Ralph taught us the story map ‘How to Look After a Pet Dragon!’ Now we are able to train dragons like he does. Following on from this visit, we completed various writing tasks related to instruction writing and how to look after dragons.

Kings and Queens day on Tuesday was wonderful. We enjoyed learning all about famous British monarchs, making timelines, writing diary entries as the Queen and even making clay portraits of a king or queen.

Stay and Make is this Tuesday, starting at 1.30. We aim to be finished at 2.45.
