Year 2 WC 7th October 2019

Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 5:59pm

This week we have been writing our own biographies. After learning a story-map about Mary Seacole, we picked apart the text looking at its features and created a toolkit. Then we made up own our 'hero' and wrote their biography.

In maths we have started looking at adding and subtracting 1s and 10s from two digit numbers. They have been introduced to the column method and we'll continue to build on this next week. Please keep practising number bonds to 10 so that your child can recall them quickly. This will really help when they need to bridge ten. e.g. 46 + 8. If they know their number bonds this will be really so they can break it down into 46 + 4 = 50 then 50 + 4 = 54.

In Science we investigated handspans. We asked the question: 'Do older children have bigger handspans?' and 'Do taller people have a bigger handspan?' First they made predictions and then decided how they were going to carry out their investigation. Next, they asked several children from Reception to Year 6, and some adults too, to draw around their hand. Then they used a ruler to measure their handspan. There were some surprising results!

In Spanish, the children have been learning to count as well as recapping greetings that they learnt last week.

Don't forget our trip to the Potteries is next week. It is also our class worship at church on Thursday. We would love for parents to join us; we'll be leaving school to walk to church at 9 o'clock.

Have a lovely weekend
