Year 2 WC 9th November 2020

Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 10:54pm

This week we have continued with our Send for a Superhero text in English. On Monday we used -ful and -less adjectives to write a letter to our own superhero asking for their help, complimenting them on their superhero skills and persuading them to help defeat the fearless, terrible two Filth and Vacuum. We then imagined we were reporters recounting the story of how surprisingly, Extremely Boring Man, was the one to save the day.

In maths we have focused on addition and subtraction, adding two digit numbers and ones and two digit numbers and tens. The children have been introduced to the column method as well as using mental strategies. Next week, we'll be focusing more on subtraction, including exchanging. As we move onto working with larger numbers, it is really helpful if children can continue to practise recalling addition and subtraction of single digits. The website/app Hit the Button that was set for homework a couple of weeks ago is great for practising these little and often.

In Science, the children have been learning the importance of hygiene. They have started an experiment to find out what happens to bread that has been touched with unwashed hands and washed hands. Over the next couple of weeks they'll be observing to find out what happens.

In art the children have produced some excellent self-portraits in the style of Ray Lichenstein. Keep checking back to the website as I'll be adding some pictures of their wonderful masterpieces next week. I

On Thursday we had a virtual visit from the National Army Museum who talked to the children about Mary Seacole, building on their learning about Florence Nightgale last year. Perhaps they could tell you something they have learnt about her story? We'll be doing some follow-up work on this next week.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
