Year 2 WC 9th September 2019

Welcome back to a new school year. We've had a brilliant start in Year 2 as the children are settling really well into our new routines. It was lovely to see the parents that attended the meeting on Tuesday as there have been a few changes since last year. The PowerPoint is now on the website so please have a look. 

Our topic this half term is based around the text 'Send for a Superhero' which the children are really enjoying. In English we have been introduced to two 'baddies' Filth and Vacuum who terrorise the charming town of Townton. Our focus has been using adjectives with different suffixes (ful and less) and using conjunctions to add extra information. The children have produced some fantastic Wanted posters and have written letters to their favourite superheroes asking for their help. 

In Maths we have started our place value unit. It's really important that children have a solid understanding of what numbers mean and can use practical and pictorial representations to read, write, order and compare two digit numbers. MyMaths homework will be set on Monday.

In Science we are looking at how animals and humans change as they grow. We have had some caterpillars arrive in the classroom, so we shall be observing closely to see how they change into butterflies. We shall be looking at how babies grow and how they have changed since they were born. Please can children bring in a photo of them as a baby (pre-walking) and as a toddler that you don't mind being stuck into their topic books, by Monday 23rd September. 

This week I have sent home 'Homework Challenges' for this half term. Children will receive Dojo points for completing one of the challenges. During the last week of half term these will be displayed in a Learning Exhibition where children have the chance to show off what they have done at home and talk to you about their topic work in class. Please bring completed work in on Thursday 17th or Friday 18th October.
