Year 2 - Week Beginning 11th December

Date: 18th Dec 2017 @ 7:32am

What a busy and successful week we had in Year 2! We would like to start by thanking everyone for their support with the Nativity performances, from costumes to props, it couldn’t have happened without you all. The children had the most wonderful time preforming to you and it was delightful to see each one of them shine. Even though the performance is over, I’m sure we will continue to sing the songs as we have had such fun learning and performing the ‘Prickly Hay’ version of the Nativity.

In addition to the Nativity, we have been looking at the story of the Cobweb Curtain in English. The children have explored the Christian story by looking at the character’s feelings and emotions as well as the setting in which the story took place. It was lovely to unpick the story and grasp a deeper understanding. By the end of the week, the children were looking at writing speech and punctuating it correctly. They made a great start by using inverted commas and we will continue to look at this moving forward into the Spring term.

In Maths, we have been completing assessments and the children have risen to this challenge well. These results have demonstrated that the children’s arithmetic skills are developing well and they are beginning to explain answers and justify particular methods. We encourage the children to continue this and make sure they explain how they have reached their answers when completing their ‘My Maths’ home work on a weekly basis.

With only a few days to go before Christmas, we shall be enjoying writing letters, completing Maths challenges that include multiplication and division as well as making Christmas cards and enjoying party games.
