Year 2 Week Beginning 23rd October

Date: 27th Oct 2017 @ 3:49pm

It was wonderful to see you all this week at parent’s consultations, thank you to all of you who came. We really hope you enjoyed looking at the children’s work and were pleased with the progress they are making.

In English this week we have been inventing our own set of instructions. The children used the structure of ‘how to trap a dragon’ to write another set of instructions; these were all very informative for details on ‘how to toilet train your dragon, ‘how to teach your dragon to brush their teeth’ and ‘how to help your dragon pray’. It has been delightful to see the children so inspired and completing fantastic writing.

In Maths, we have been continuing our work on adding two 2-digit numbers. We have removed many scaffolds now and the children have been using number lines to add on. They have started by putting the biggest number at the start of the line and then counting on from there. Some children have even started to bridge the 10 and look at numbers larger than 100. There has been a few technical problems with My Maths this week, so therefore there has been no maths homework. We hope to have this fixed by after half term and we will set them homework accordingly in the first week back.

This week to combine our English, science, art and design skills we have been creating pictures of dragons. The children really enjoyed exploring these skills and some fantastic examples have gone up onto our dragon display.

We hope you all have wonderful half term and are able to spend some time with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday 6th November for the second half of our autumn term.
