Year 4 class blog w/b 13.1.20

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 3:27pm

I hope you have had a very merry Christmas. Thank you again for your generosity!

The homework challenge went out last week; I hope you enjoy spending time together at home completing a challenge or two of your choice. Don’t forget to look at the recommended reads for this half term, which I’m sure you could access at the library.

Everyone is very excited about our new times tables Rockstars! It is great to see everyone so enthused about it! We have some very competitive children who are eager to challenge their friends! It can be played on a phone, tablet or computer (and is free to access). By summer term, when we complete our Year 4 times table test, the children need to answer 25 questions from 2 to 12 times tables- they will have 6 seconds per question! The game mode ‘Studio’ helps to improve the children’s speed! Give it a try! My time is 1.67 seconds! My challenge is, who can beat it?!

Because I want everyone to use Rockstars as frequently as possible, I will not be setting mymaths again in Year 4. This is on the understanding that this is done instead. 5 minutes (or more every day) will have a huge impact upon times table knowledge as the game is very fun (but teaches by rote learning- the most effective method!) English homework is set again this week.

Our focus in Maths over the past fortnight has been multiplication and division, while in English and topic, our new text Wisp, has focused on refugees. We have been learning about what a refugee is through our focus text and have completed various written tasks, as well as art and research tasks.

Our guided reading text for this half term is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

The children have been learning about sound in Science with Mr Cotton, while in PE they have had 2 weeks of cricket with a PE coach from the Cheshire Cricket Board! We will be doing gymnastics next week onwards. In RE, we have been focusing on the kingdom of God.
