THE CURRICULUM

We aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that gives children opportunities to develop lively, enquiring minds in order to explore, understand and explain the world. Importance is placed on children’s happiness as this contributes to mutual respect, trust and consideration

Children learn in a variety ways depending upon their age and stage of development. They therefore experience being taught as members of a whole class, a small group and individually. Purposeful activities are planned to match their learning needs, abilities, interests and experience in order to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of new concepts.

The curriculum includes every aspect of school life from the taught subjects to the everyday opportunities and experiences given to children. The National Curriculum is divided into core and foundation subjects as follows:

Core Subjects Foundation Subjects
Literacy
Numeracy
Science
Information & Communication Technology
Religious Education
History
Geography
Design Technology
Art
Music
PE

Progression and continuity is ensured through a whole school approach to planning. A curriculum map provides an overview of the themes covered in each subject area from Reception to Y6 and schemes of work detail the learning objectives and activities. Both the National Literacy Strategy and National Numeracy Strategy are in operation.
