This half term is flying by, it's only 27 shopping days to Christmas.

English: the children have really enjoyed reading some of the more traditional versions of fairy tales - they can be quite gruesome. We have found out a lot about their features and they are about to start writing their own.

We are trying to speed our way to the end of 'There's a boy in the girls' bathroom' in guided reading before the term runs out. The children are really enjoying this book and have worked hard to learn how to 'dig deeper' for the answers to their questions.

In spelling we have worked mostly on different word endings  as well as words that contain silent letters. Read, write inc spelling seems to be working well in helping the children remember how to spell some quite difficult words.

Maths: We have covered a lot of work on place value as well as addition and subtraction. We are now working on graphs and tables. Keep working at those times tables at home!

Science: we are coming to the end of our unit on materials and their properties. I think the children have enjoyed the practical work especially, this is a good unit for that, especially the Mentos challenge and setting fire to things.

We still have a couple of lessons to go on topic work, the next one is learning about the first 4 Caliphs of the Ancient Islamic world and how influential they were..

Mrs. Pulle is now teaching all aspects of RE on Tuesday afternoons. We are coming up to a very interesting time of year for the church of course. Our school theme for this half term is friendship and we are basing our Worship on this. Mr. Cotton will be returning to teaching the class computing on Monday afternoons when Mr McAulay returns from his paternity leave.

There will be a Y5 stay and make session soon, we are going to be making gingerbread to tie in with our work on fairy tales and Christmas too of course.

Thank you for all your support with homework, I've really enjoyed seeing what the children have brought back in this term, it has been to a very good standard indeed.
