First week back

Date: 7th Sep 2018 @ 5:13pm

Good evening all,

At the end of our first week back, I wanted to update everyone on our activities this week. We had a tremendously successful church service this morning welcoming the CDAT family into our Brereton family and we are looking forward to working with them in school.

In year 4, we have been concentrating on settling back into our daily routine and adapting to the new expectations and requirements of year 4. Roman numerals have been the order of the day in maths this week. The children have learnt the Roman numeral for 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 and how these are used to create other numbers. As you can see from the pictures below, not only have we worked in our books but we have also used lollipop sticks to create Roman numerals in pairs.

In English, we prepared for our first unit of the year by writing a fairy-tale which we will be able to compare with our end product in a few weeks’ time.

Finally, we enjoyed our first lesson with Mr Goodwin, our new PE coach. We concentrated on team building games before moving towards more competitive challenges including ball work. From next week, our PE focus will be on tag rugby, a game full of skill, agility and tactical understanding.

In the coming week, we will start our science topic of sound using investigations, experiments and observations to understand how our bodies comprehend the sound around us.

On a final note, next Wednesday will be our first music lesson with Mrs Tice. The children will choose their instrument of choice for the year where they are able to learn either the violin or cello. Before the children will be allowed to bring these instruments home, I will send out a letter detailing the finer points of the instruments care for the year ahead. This will be arriving home on Wednesday so please check those bags.

Attached to this blog is an extensive list of books that would be excellent for the children to read throughout their time in year 4. Some may have read them already which is super. We do have a selection of these books in school but some may be in use or unavailable.

I hope you enjoy your weekend and are able to treasure some family time.
