Our week 7.11

Date: 10th Nov 2022 @ 12:32pm

Another busy couple of weeks for Year 4. We have now moved on to the maths topic of multiplication and division. This is greatly helped by our determined work on times tables and has focussed primarily on the 3, 6 and 9 times table. In the summer term, each child in Year 4 will complete their Multiplication Tables Check and we have been looking at patterns on a multiplication grid to help the children with their learning.

In English, the children are thoroughly enjoying the twists in the tales they are writing. What if Cinderella's foot didn't fit in the shoe or Hansel and Gretal didn't escape from the witch's oven? These are the gruesome scenarios we are thinking about with specific work on metaphors, contrasting phrases and expanded noun phrases. I look forward to reading their surprise endings towards the end of next week.

In science this week we have begun our unit of the digestive system and started learning about the different parts of the body involved in the eating, swallowing and digestion of food, and the elimination of waste. Apologies if one or two mealtimes have been spoiled this week by discussion about the last part! Next time we will be looking at teeth and develop our understanding of the different functions that our teeth have.

This week, the children have also been following the journey of the River Nile leading towards their understanding of how such a river can impact on people's lives.

Of course, today we have walked to church for the contemplative Remembrance Service. The children sang their hymns beautifully. and showed great respect for this solemn occasion. Max Irlam helped lay the wreath on the war memorial at church.

I hope you all enjoy a peaceful, relaxing weekend.
