Week 5

In Literacy we have started learning our new ‘Talk for Writing’ non-chronological report, which is all about Paddington Bear. We learnt lots of interesting information about Paddington and used this to help us make him a passport. We also wrote facts using excellent openers, such as ‘Amazingly…,’ ‘Surprisingly…’, and ‘Interestingly.’ On Thursday, we wrote a postcard to Aunt Lucy telling her what Paddington had been getting up to in London. We have been working hard on using capital letters for names and places in our writing. During our topic sessions, we have been learning about the Tower of London. Why not ask your child what they found out?

We have also made plasticine bears and decorated Paddington Bear biscuits.

In Maths, we have been using a number line to solve addition sums by counting on. We learnt that the first number in our sum tells us where to start on the number line and the second number tells us how many jumps forward we need to make in order to find our answer. On Thursday, we went on a sum hunt in the woods and used our number line to help us solve the sums! Why not try the game below at home?

Miss Goff’s phonics group have been focusing on the sounds ‘ure’ (sure) and ‘ire’ (fire). Miss Sherliker’s group have been looking at ways of making ‘aw’ (saw) and ‘or’ (for). Well done to the children who practised their spellings this week.

This week we had a surprise visit from Mr and Mrs McAulay and their beautiful baby Elsie. During their choosing time the children decided that it would be a lovely idea to make a card to give to baby Elsie. We also played with the toy babies, learning how to dress and care for them.

Have a lovely weekend!
