Reception ~ W/B 16th November

Date: 20th Nov 2015 @ 9:00pm

Firstly…

A big thank you for all your kind donations today.  I am sure the PTA will put them to good use!  I hope you will all be able to attend the Christmas Fair next Friday.  It really is a super evening and helps to put us in that lovely Christmassy mood.  Mrs Gleave and myself will be assisting Santa and checking the list twice in the grotto so do come and see us!  On that note I would greatly appreciate volunteers to man the Reception stall (Spin to Win a Sweetie Jar).  This is a very popular stall so the PTA have asked for two adults per half hour slot.  By doing a little bit it means that everybody gets to spend time with their families and enjoy the fair.  I will out on the playground Monday morning with my sign-up sheet.  Thank you in advance.

This week in Literacy we have been looking at money.  We have learnt to recognise and order coins, as well as explore their value.  By using Numicon we were even able to begin adding coins together.  Why not take your child to use the self-service tills at many well-known supermarkets and allow them to handle the coins themselves?  Or sort coins in their savings jar?

In Literacy we have been looking at instructions.  On Tuesday we listened carefully as Miss Goff told us how to make a catapult.  This was quite tricky without any pictures or writing to refer to so we wrote our own set of instructions.  The children sounded out the words carefully and wrote the sounds they could hear.  I was very proud of all of their efforts!

Our Nativity is coming along wonderfully!  For homework please practise your child’s lines with them.  It would be beneficial for them to know who speaks before them and what they say.  Also work on volume.  For example, get them to stand at the top of the stairs and shout their lines down to you.  It does not matter if they don’t say the exact words as long as the story flows.  Please ensure costumes are in before the performance so the children can get used to walking onto the stage with them on.

Don’t forget our trip is on Friday 27th November.  Miss McCann and I visited Lymme Park yesterday and the staff have planned a super day for our children.  I am really looking forward to it!  It is fancy dress but please ensure it is weather appropriate as we may be outside for part of the day.

Finally, a big thank you to Molly and Oscar who brought in birthday goodies to share with the class.

Thank you for your continued support and I hope you have a lovely weekend!
