Reception W/B 19th June

A Super Week!

This week the children have been working incredibly hard, writing their ‘We’re Going on a … Hunt’ stories. They have been learning to spell words such: we’re, going, one, can’t, under and over. The children worked hard to remember their finger spaces and they even started to use full stops and capital letters accurately. I have been really impressed with the work produced this week and I am sure we will be dishing out some certificates next week. They are certainly showing me they are ready for Year 1!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a lovely start to the day, joining Year 3’s visitors in a very special assembly. The Brazilian drummers taught us some Portuguese as we sang. Please check out the school gallery section to see some of the videos. We were then inspired to find out more about Brazil. After finding out key facts we made some lovely carnival headdresses.

In Phonic this week both groups have been looking at the sound er. This is a very common sound and we have been reading and writing words such as ‘letter, under, over, sister, biker, burger, faster, smoother, slower, baker; and even ‘helicopter! ‘ Well done to all of the children who have been practising their spellings. Next week we will be looking at the sounds ou (out) and ow (how).

In Guided Reading we have been getting ready for Year 1 by responding to written questions and recording the answers in our Guided Reading books. Please do keep reading at home. Being able to read text independently will really help the children in Year 1.

Finally, the highlight of week was our brilliant class assembly. The children learnt their words quickly and performed with confidence and enthusiasm. Miss Sherliker and I were beaming throughout! Well done guys, you did a great job and I’m sure you made your parents very proud.

Next Friday (30th June) is our Sports Day. You should have received a letter explaining what your child needs to wear etc. If you have any queries please do come and speak to me. On Wednesday 28th we also have our afternoon tea celebration for Reverend Robin. All are welcome.

Have a lovely weekend!
