Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 8th October

Date: 12th Oct 2018 @ 3:56pm

It’s been another lively week in Reception.

In literacy we’ve introduced our new story ‘Meerkat Mail’ written by Emily Gravett. We came into our classroom on Wednesday morning to discover tiny footprints scattered around the floor. After investigating a little further, we discovered a bag and safari hat in the middle of our classroom rug. The attached letter explained that it belonged to Sunny, a meerkat from the Kalahari Desert, and that he was looking for a new place to live. We helped him by writing a list of all the things he had in his bag in case he lost anything on his journey.

In maths, we have been busy ordering numbers to 20 as well as finding one more and one less than a given number. The children used numicon to support them in this task and it’s great to see how they are becoming for familiar and confident with it.

In PE this week, we have focused on coordination. We used the sound track of ‘The Lion King’ to experiment with different movements and balances.

A little reminder for next week, we have Julia Donaldson day on Wednesday 17th in which the children have the opportunity to dress as their favourite characters from her stories. If the children wish to dress up, please send in their favourite book to accompany their outfit.

Monday 15th – the children are having their picture taken for the local paper. Please do let us know if you’d rather not have your children participate, if you’ve not already done so.

Have a wonderful weekend and we shall see you all on Monday.
