Year 2 w/b 28th November

Date: 2nd Dec 2022 @ 3:34pm

What a busy but exciting week we have had in Year Two!

Our English learning began with the introduction of a model text for a superhero narrative. We have analysed this model text, looking for examples of: conjunctions, similes, expanded noun phrases, adverbs, exclamation marks and questions. The children are becoming SPaG experts! We are all really looking forward to planning our own superhero narratives next week.

Our spelling rule this week has been: ‘drop the e before adding the suffix -y’ This rule applies to words such as: cheesy, whiny, shiny, lazy and crazy.

In maths, our addition and subtraction unit is coming to an end. At the end of the week we looked at problem solving, requiring us to be maths detectives as we looked for clue words (e.g. total, altogether, difference, fewer) to help us to decide whether we needed to add or subtract. We continued to use the column method, including exchanging, to support us with this. It is important that the children continue to revisit column addition and subtraction throughout the year so that it remains familiar to them; we will, of course, continue to recap these strategies within school and it would be very beneficial for the children to continue to practise at home.

In Religious Education this week, we enjoyed circle time, every child had the opportunity to share some personal good news. We watched a short extract from BBC Newsround with a mix of news and decided together what was the good news and what was the not so good news or even bad news. We then read a bible story from The Old Testament, the angel Gabriel visited Zechariah and told him good news. We also really enjoyed watching a short film when The Angel Gabriel visited Mary and delivered God’s special message to her.

Much of our week has, once again, been dedicated to our Nativity preparations. We really look forward to welcoming you to the performance ’Busy busy Bethlehem’ next week. The children have been working hard and the Christian Christmas retelling of that first Christmas over 2000 years ago is delivered by Key Stage One with sparkle, enthusiasm, and enjoyment.

Thank you for your continued support at home. We are really looking forward to seeing you all at the Nativity Performances on Wednesday at 2pm and Thursday at 6pm.

Have a lovely weekend.
