Year 3 blog w/b 16th January

Date: 19th Jan 2023 @ 4:56pm

Year 3 have worked very hard over the past fortnight! What an exciting week it with the snow in school! The children thoroughly enjoyed break times where they were able to play in the snow.

Thank you for your support with homework and reading over the past week.

Here is a little insight into what we have been doing over the past two weeks:

English

In English we have been exploring and analysing a model text where a character becomes lost in a crowd whilst having a super time at the fair! The character started to panic and we thought about how the author showed the character’s emotions without telling us by describing how the character looked and what they did. We will be using all of this to have a go at writing our own lost narratives next week!

Maths

In Maths, we have been dividing and multiplying using the 3, 4- and 8-times tables. We have now moved on to multiplying 2 digits by 1-digit numbers e.g. 45 x 4 using a formal written method. I have been very impressed by how quickly they have picked it up; any help on times tables will really help this area of Maths, as the children with secure tables knowledge tend to fly through most of the problems we solve.

Other areas

In PE we have been learning how to move the ball and how to dribble using our finger pads and keeping the ball near our hip when it bounces in basketball; we have been passing using a chest and bounce pass and have started to put this into game practice. In Science, the children were learning how water moves through a plant in a very exciting experiment involving food colouring and celery! In RE, we have been learning about forgiveness and how Jesus showed forgiveness in various bible stories. In art, we have continued to create art work in the style of Georgia O’Keefe, while in history we have been learning about rich and poor Tudors and the houses they lived in. It has been wonderful to watch the children progress with their clarinets, trumpets and saxophones in our music lessons too!
