Year 5 update

In Maths we have been focusing on addition and subtraction. Building on the strategies we used last year, we have been using the column method to add and subtract up to 6 digits. We have also been rounding in order to estimate and check our answers, as well as using the inverse. Next we are going to apply all of these skills in some problem solving before moving on to multiplication and division.
In English, we have been learning about how to write a newspaper report. Over the last two weeks we have looked closely at the features of a newspaper and found these in several different examples. Then we have planned and written our own newspaper report about the character in the book, The Promise.
In History, we have been learning about the abolition of the slave trade. We explored the different views for and against.
In Science , we have this week research and produced a quiz about the famous naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough
Friday the 14th October , we travelled to Chester Cathedral for pilgrims’ day. We had a great time and learnt a lot about the cathedral and why people go on pilgrimage.
