Year 6 - 8th March

Date: 8th Mar 2024 @ 3:53pm

MONDAY

On Monday, we started the day with maths which was ordering fractions, decimals and percentages - we found this quite easy!  After break, we started English and we wrote our wolves descriptions.  Our afternoon consisted of PE which was cricket and lots of fun!

TUESDAY

Starting Tuesday, we did My Happy Mind and talked about friendships.  Afterwards we had maths which involved finding agiven % of an amount; it was our first lesson doing this so was quite hard. In the afternoon, we worked in pairs to answer maths questions; we had to take it in turns and helped each other when we were stuck. We had all improved so much so were really happy. Finally, home time.

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday, we had worship with Reverend Sandi, calculated more percentages in maths and had spelling in our groups. We also looked at our new guided reading text ‘The Boy in the Tower’ and made predictions about what will happen. In the afternoon, we did some special art (you will see on Sunday!) and finished off our published pieces of writing.

THURSDAY

World Book Day, and it was very busy for us! We had a video assembly with Mrs Winward, then we designed World Book Day vouchers for a competition - we hope we win! We read with our reading buddies and enjoyed seeing everyones pyjamas and costumes. Then we walked to church with Year 5 and talked about being kind to others and saying sorry for the things we shouldn’t have done. In the afternoon, we had Mrs Tice for music and computing.

FRIDAY

Another super busy day! We had maths first and finished our unit on percentages; we might still do some work on this next week and after though to check we understand. Then we had English and wrote and presented a balanced argument. Our question was ‘Could technology replace teachers’? We all had lots of ideas and thoughts and had a brilliant discussion! In the afternoon, we had science and looked at light, sight and shadows. We learnt about the parts of the eye and how shadows are formed. Then we did an experiment to find out how to make shadows smaller or change their shape.

Only 2 weeks until Pensarn!

Maths

This week we have been working on percentages of amounts. We have used a variety of methods such as dividing by 10 to find 10%, which we can then multiply to find other amounts such as 20 or 30%.

Here is a video to explain or support your child with this if they are finding this area difficult.

Our homework next week will be on percentages so this may be useful if there are any problems with this.
