Week Beginning: 10th October
Date: 9th Oct 2016 @ 8:39am
We had another action packed week in Year 5. In English we started our work on our new story, The Canal, and were fortunate enough to receive a visit from the main characters. I am sure you have heard all about it at home!
In maths, we have been working with decimals. We began by multiplying and dividing by 10,100 and 1000 and then used this knowledge to covert between different units of measurement. We also worked on placing numbers correctly on an unmarked number line.
In RE we completed lesson four of Bible explorer. Everyone enjoyed dressing up as kings, listening to the stories and learning the actions. Next week is the final week of our old testament work and children will perform for the rest of the school in assembly. We will begin Bible Explorer for the new testament in November.
We continued our work on programming using python in ICT. Some children are really beginning to grasp the rules of writing code and are enjoying exploring the things they can do using the programme.
Finally, of course, was our Harvest Service. The children performed extremely well. Particularly given the slight musical issues we experienced. I was proud of them all and it was lovely to see so many of you there.
Next week promises to be just as action packed with our visit to Chester Cathedral on Tuesday. We are aiming to leave no later than 8:45 so it would be helpful if children could arrive at school by 8:40. Children will need a packed lunch and drink which needs to be in a bag. The organisers have specifically requested no lunch boxes. If you would like your child to have a packed lunch from school, please let us know tomorrow. It can be cold in certain parts of the cathedral and children will be encouraged to keep their coats with them throughout the day. We should arrive back at school by 3:30 depending on traffic. I will post an update on the website if we are later than expected.
I hope the information was useful,
Mrs Wood
