Wow, what a wonderful first week have had in Year One!
We have seen a lot of enthusiasm and joy to learn and play with friends after a long summer holiday. We have given the children some choosing time this week so we can observe how they play, listen and interact with each other. We have spent some of the time this week exploring our environment and playing some games together. On top of this they have all enjoyed some focused learning.
During our first English lesson, the children wrote about their holidays and shared some of the exciting things they have been doing over the summer. What fantastic writing skills they have!
The children were very excited to bring home a reading book for them to keep. We wiill send home reading books next week.
In our first forest school session of the new year we reminded ourselves of the forest school rules and expectations before exploring the outdoor area.
We will be looking at the history of transport this half term. This week we began by thinking about different types of transport which we use and shared some of our experiences of this. We then looked at images of how these modes of transport may have looked in the past. We looked at a timeline to see which order the developments of transport were made and will build on this as we focus on a different mode of transport each week.
In music, we explored and listened to different percussion instruments. We particularly enjoyed challenging our friends to see if they could guess the instrument from hearing it.
We also began our new science learning all about trees. We went on a walk around our school grounds to see if we could identify any of the trees and the children were very enthusiastic to tell us all of the things they already know about trees. We then enjoyed sketching our ‘class tree’ in the school garden.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
