Year 4 W/B 11th November 2024
Date: 15th Nov 2024 @ 4:53pm
What a wonderful week we have had in Year 4! It has been a real pleasure to work with all of the children and get to know them again after not seeing them for a year. We started our week with a wonderfully reflective service in Church marking Remembrance Day. The children showed great respect in church and enjoyed taking part in this very important service.
In English the children have continued to focus their learning on the text ‘Arthur and the Golden’ rope. They have been looking carefully at the myth and exploring how to create a narrative. Picking out key features of the text and spotting fronted adverbials helped the children to create their own setting description. Finally, we ended the week by writing our own character descriptions about the wolf from the story.
In Maths we have been continuing to develop our multiplication knowledge. Our key focus this week has been the 3, 6 and 9 times tables. The children were really impressed learning how to use the finger trick to solve their 9 times tables, see if they can show you at home. The children's knowledge and fluency of the 9 times table will develop over the weeks. Regular practice at home will support your child's learning.
On Thursday we were very lucky to have a visit from Clonter theatre. The children have taken part in two workshops this week. Firstly, on Monday they watched the Adventures of Puck as he took them through some of the most iconic Shakespeare stories. On Thursday, two members of staff from the Clonter Theatre in Congleton visited school and ran a set design workshop with the children. They focused on three stories (Macbeth, Romeo and Juliette and A Midsummer’s Nights Dream) and worked in teams to design and create their own sets. We were really impressed to see the children work collaboratively in groups and produce such incredible final designs. They then chose their own lighting to create the atmosphere they wanted, check out the pictures!
On Wednesday afternoon we had a fun afternoon with the games coach, we enjoyed participating in lots of new team games!
After working with Mrs Field on Tuesday thinking about how to be a good friend and how we can include everyone we put these skills into practice in our Forest School session. We really enjoyed working collaboratively on lots of challenges.
In our Art lesson we practiced our sketching skills using different gradients of pencils to shade our work, the children produced some incredible art work!
