Year 5 w/b 19th April

What an amazing first week back.
We began our week thinking about descriptive language using feely bags and describing to the rest of the group what we could feel inside. We evaluated our descriptions looking at words which sounded formal and those which were informal. We then moved on to looking at our model text - an astronaut's mission report. We even had a visit from an astronaut! On Friday we used some of the formal language we have been looking at to help our teachers understand modern words!
In maths, we have been revising long multiplication. This has been a little tricky and we will continue working on our times tables, but we have next week we will be moving on to working with decimals.
In history, we found out about the first telescopes before making our own models. Mrs Theobalds kindly came to talk to the class about how the lenses or mirrors inside gathered or reflected light enabling us to see into space. It was lovely to have a visitor in school again and for the children to hear information from an expert. Thank you Mrs Theobalds.
In Forest Schools we made our own sundials and then worked with Mr Simmons to make a permanent one in the Forest Schools area. We have enjoyed checking it at break times.
