Year 5 w/b 3/6/19
Date: 8th Jun 2019 @ 4:45pm
Last half term the children finished writing their stories based on 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies. The standard of writing was fantastic as children really embraced the style of the author. Everyone was keen to share their work with Y6, Mr Collier and Mrs McLean. We also produced non-chronological reports on plastic in the ocean. This was linked to our work on heroes and the work of David Attenborough.
We started this half term enthusiastically investigating a suspicious crime scene. The children had lots of questions and made predictions about what had happened. It was then revealed that we would be studying Romeo and Juliet. Everyone enjoyed getting into role and acting out the prologue to the play. Next week we will be investigating the rules of writing dialogue before writing our own version of the scene.
In maths, we have been adding and subtracting decimals. To help at home, children could practise finding how many more they need to make the next whole number. e.g 1.2 + ? = 1, 0.09 + ? =1. Over the next week we will also be moving onto multiplying and dividing decimals.
In our topic lessons we will be looking at the work of the firefighters during the Grenfell Tower disaster. We will also be finding out more about Harry linked to our class charity - More Than A Face / Our Altered Life. Finally, we will be look at the Queen's birthday honors list and decide whether we think the recipients are worthy before making our own honors list based on all the heroes we have been studying.
Rehearsals for our summer show, Joseph, are also under way and children brought costume letters home last night.
It is sure to be a very busy half term with lots to look forward to including our RE trip to Stoke Minster and City Central Mosque.
