Year 5 Week 1 4th-6th September
Date: 8th Sep 2024 @ 11:32am
Welcome back!
We've had a great three days with the new Year 5 class, and welcomed three new faces to our class who have all settled in brilliantly. We started the first morning by thinking about and contributing to our school rules - being ready, respectful and safe - and then designed some lovely posters, which are now posted around our classroom.
In maths, we started with a lesson on Roman numerals (a favourite for some, less so for others) and then moved on to our place value unit - which helped blow away some summer cobwebs! Whilst we will start our English unit this coming week, we used our time on Thursday to write letters to our future selves - these will be returned to the children in July at the end of Year 5 for them to see if their goals and hopes have been met and whether they are still the same people they were at the start of September.
We had a lovely Forest School session with Mr Simmons on team work that linked in well with our Wednesday worship with Mrs Wood, who launched our first term with a quote from Thessalonians 5:11: "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up". The class have really taken to this message and I'm sure that their PE lessons with Mr Aspinall this term will have this forefront in their minds. In our science unit on Life Cycles we looked at the different ways that plants reproduce, recapped on the life cycle of flowering plants that require sexual reproduction, and replanted some strawberry plant runners that reproduce asexually.
Hope you are having a good weekend, and we will see you all tomorrow!
