Year 6 w/b 22.04.25

Date: 25th Apr 2025 @ 2:42pm

What a busy start to the summer term we have had!

On Tuesday, we started the week with a special visitor - Clare from Cheshire Police. We learnt so much about the law and how to keep ourselves safe as we move into high school and beyond. We also met Nala the detective dog and found out how she has saved many lives in her role own in the police.

Throughout the week we have also been looking at our new text 'Shackleton's Journey' and have started to find out about his expedition to Antarctica on board The Endurance. We will use this text to start our writing next week as we are going to be creating exciting setting descriptions and then a letter from a member of the crew.

In maths, we have been very busy covering area, perimeter and volume. With only a few weeks before SATs we have been sure to practice key methods and have recapped lots of other units.

We have had art with Mrs Taylor and created new knowledge organisers focusing on digital artists. The artwork we looked at was very interesting and unusual and we are looking forward to making our own pieces in a few weeks time.

We also had our Easter service in church on Thursday and we had some wonderful volunteers from the class to read some prayers. We also showed everyone how well we can sing with some wonderful singing - it was great practice for our summer show!

Finally, we started our new unit of gymnastics in PE this afternoon. Unfortunately, we missed our first forest school session on Monday becasue of the bank holiday but we are looking forward to our session next week.

The children have been told that due to SATs they can choose their own homework pages. Please complete work on the areas that you think you need. We have also sent revision packs home that children have asked for and I have added websites to the Year 6 class page for revision activities. If you need any guidance or have any questions regarding SATs, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor
